Sorority Spray Tan FAQ: Outfits, Nails, Lashes, Shaving + All the Glow Timing Questions

1. When should I get my spray tan before recruitment, formals, Bid Day, or a white dress event?

The best time is usually 24 to 48 hours before your event. If you are wearing white, taking photos, going through recruitment, or attending a formal, I usually love the 2 days before window.

That gives your tan time to develop, rinse, settle, and look soft on the skin. Basically, we want “effortlessly bronzed,” not “I panic-tanned at midnight.”

2. I am really pale. Will a spray tan look fake on me?

No, not if it is customized correctly. If you are naturally fair, the goal is usually a soft, believable glow that gives you color without making you look like a completely different person.

For pale clients, I usually recommend starting with a natural light to medium shade, especially for recruitment or daytime events. You can always go darker next time, but your first tan should feel like you with better lighting.

3. Will a spray tan transfer onto my white dress?

The biggest risk of transfer happens before your first rinse, while the guide bronzer is still on your skin. Once you have rinsed properly, showered, and your tan has settled, transfer is much less likely.

For white dresses, white sets, bridal events, initiation, recruitment outfits, or bid day white looks, book your tan at least 24 to 48 hours before. Do not get sprayed and immediately put on white. That is not a glow plan. That is a laundry crisis waiting to happen.

4. Can I wear a white dress after a spray tan?

Yes, but timing matters. You want your tan fully rinsed and settled before wearing white.

Best plan: spray tan 2 days before, rinse at your instructed time, shower normally the next day, moisturize, and then wear your white outfit. Your tan should look smooth and photo-ready without fresh bronzer sitting on top of the skin.

5. Will my spray tan rub off on my matching set, pajamas, or sorority outfit?

Before your first rinse, some guide color can transfer onto clothes. That is why you should wear loose, dark clothing right after your tan.

After your first rinse, the guide bronzer is gone and the developed color is in the top layer of your skin. Transfer is much less likely, but tight clothing, sweat, oil, and friction can still affect how the tan wears. So yes, wear the cute matching set after the tan has settled, not while it is still developing.

6. What should I wear to sleep after my spray tan?

If you are sleeping in your tan, wear loose, dark, long pajamas. Long sleeves and long pants help prevent skin-to-skin transfer, especially behind knees, under arms, between legs, and around elbows.

Avoid sleeping in shorts and a tank if you are marinating overnight. Your tan does not need direct skin contact drama.

7. Can I wear leggings after my spray tan?

Please do not wear leggings right after your spray tan. Leggings are tight, they rub, and they can create lines while the tan is developing.

Wear loose sweats, pajama pants, a flowy dress, oversized shorts, or anything soft and roomy. Save the leggings for after your first rinse.

8. Can I wear a bra after my spray tan?

It is best to avoid a bra right after your tan if you can. Tight straps and bands can rub and leave lines while the tan is developing.

If you absolutely need one, choose something very loose and dark, but the best post-tan outfit is usually oversized, soft, and bra-free if possible.

9. When should I do my nails before a spray tan?

Get your nails done before your spray tan, ideally the day before or earlier the same day. Manicures and pedicures often involve soaking, scrubs, oils, lotion, and acetone, which can affect your tan if done afterward.

If your nails are already done, perfect. I will protect your palms and blend carefully around hands and feet.

10. Can I get a manicure or pedicure after my spray tan?

You can, but it is not ideal within the first 24 hours. If you must go after your tan, skip soaking, scrubs, oils, hot towels, paraffin, and heavy lotion.

A polish change is safer than a full pedicure. A full spa pedicure right after a spray tan is basically exfoliation wearing a cute robe.

11. When should I wax before a spray tan?

Wax 24 to 48 hours before your spray tan. Waxing removes hair and also exfoliates the skin, so doing it after your tan can remove color.

Do not wax right before your appointment if your skin is still red, irritated, sticky, or covered in wax residue. Your skin needs time to calm down before we add the glow.

12. Can I wax after a spray tan?

I would not recommend it unless you are ready for the tan to come off in that area. Waxing after a tan can lift the color and leave uneven patches.

Wax first, tan second. That is the glow girl order.

13. When should I shave before a spray tan?

Shave 12 to 24 hours before your tan if possible. This gives your pores time to calm down and helps avoid little dark dots or uneven absorption.

If you shave right before your appointment, your skin may be more sensitive and your pores may be more open. We want smooth skin, not angry skin.

14. Can I shave after a spray tan?

Yes, but wait at least 24 hours after your tan if possible. Use a fresh razor, light pressure, and a moisturizing shave product.

Shaving exfoliates the skin, so be gentle. Your spray tan is not a scratch-off ticket.

15. When should I do my “everything shower”?

Do your everything shower the day before your spray tan. That is when you should exfoliate, shave, wash your hair, deep condition, scrub off old tan, and do all the high-maintenance but necessary girl math.

Do not do an everything shower after your spray tan unless you are trying to remove it. After your tan, showers should be gentle, lukewarm, and very uninteresting.

16. Can I wash my hair after a spray tan?

Try to wash your hair before your spray tan, not right after. Hair washing usually means hot water, shampoo running down your body, conditioner residue, and longer shower time.

If you need to wash your hair after your first rinse, keep it quick and avoid letting heavy conditioner sit on your back, shoulders, or chest.

17. Should I get lashes before or after my spray tan?

Lashes are usually best before your spray tan. Lash appointments can include tape, cleanser, eye pads, glue fumes, and lying down for a long time, so it is better to do them before your glow.

If you get lashes after your tan, try to avoid products, tape, or cleansing around freshly tanned skin. Also, lying face-down or rubbing your face too soon after a tan is not ideal.

18. Can I get my eyebrows done before a spray tan?

Yes. Brow waxing, tinting, lamination, or shaping should be done before your spray tan, ideally 24 hours before if waxing is involved.

Brow tint after a spray tan can sometimes stain or remove color around the brows depending on the products used. Brows first, bronze second.

19. When should I get a facial before a spray tan?

Get facials at least 2 to 3 days before your spray tan, especially if the facial includes exfoliation, acids, peels, extractions, dermaplaning, or retinol.

Do not get a facial right after a spray tan unless you are okay with your face fading faster. Facials and fresh tans are not enemies, but they do need separate weekends.

20. When should I dermaplane before a spray tan?

Dermaplane 2 to 3 days before your spray tan. Dermaplaning exfoliates the face, which can help makeup look smooth, but doing it too close to a tan can make skin more sensitive.

Do not dermaplane after your tan unless you are intentionally removing face color.

21. Can I use retinol before or after a spray tan?

Avoid retinol on areas you want tanned for a few days before and after your appointment if possible. Retinol speeds up cell turnover, which means your tan can fade faster or look uneven.

This matters most for the face, neck, chest, and shoulders. Your skincare routine may be expensive and iconic, but your tan still has feelings.

22. Should I get my hair done before or after my spray tan?

Hair color, gloss, toner, and treatments are usually best before your spray tan. Salon products, shampoo bowls, toner, dye, and conditioner can affect a fresh tan around the neck, hairline, shoulders, and back.

If you are doing both for a big event, hair first, tan second is usually safest.

23. Can I get a blowout after a spray tan?

Yes, but I would wait until after your first rinse if possible. Blowouts involve heat, neck towels, shampoo, conditioner, and products that may touch your skin.

If you need a blowout the same day, do it before your tan. Then you can leave your spray tan appointment looking like you actually have your life together.

24. Can I wear makeup before my spray tan?

Try not to. Makeup can block the solution from developing evenly on your face.

Come with clean skin if you want your face sprayed. If you are coming from class, work, or an event, bring wipes or let me know so we can make a plan.

25. Can I wear makeup after my spray tan?

Avoid makeup until after your first rinse if possible. Foundation, powders, setting spray, primer, and skincare can interfere with development or cause unevenness.

If you have to go somewhere after, keep it minimal. But honestly, the best post-tan activity is going home and acting like a delicate glazed cinnamon roll until rinse time.

26. Can I wear deodorant before my spray tan?

No. Deodorant can create a barrier and may react with the tan, sometimes causing discoloration under the arms.

Come with clean, dry skin and skip deodorant until after your first rinse. I know. It is humbling. But it matters.

27. Can I put lotion on before my spray tan?

No lotion before your appointment unless I tell you otherwise. Lotion can block the tan from absorbing evenly.

The only exception is barrier lotion, which I use strategically on areas like hands, feet, elbows, knees, ankles, and dry spots.

28. Can I put perfume on before or after my spray tan?

Avoid perfume before your tan and until after your first rinse. Perfume often contains alcohol, which can interfere with development or make the tan fade unevenly.

Spray your clothes later if you need to smell expensive. Just do not spray your fresh tan.

29. What if my outfit is strapless, backless, or has cutouts?

Tell me before I spray you. Outfit details matter because tan lines, strap marks, bra lines, and blending can affect the final look.

If you are wearing a strapless dress, backless top, white dress, recruitment dress, or formal outfit, I can help plan what to wear during the tan and how to avoid lines.

30. Should I tan nude or wear underwear?

Wear whatever makes you comfortable. Some clients tan nude, some wear underwear, some wear a swimsuit, and some wear disposable bottoms.

For formal dresses, white dresses, and outfits with cutouts, think about what tan lines you do or do not want. Comfort comes first, but outfit planning helps.

31. What if my recruitment outfits are white, pastel, or light colors?

Book your tan 24 to 48 hours before, rinse properly, and avoid wearing those light colors until your tan has fully settled.

White and pastel outfits are totally fine with a spray tan, but timing is everything. Fresh guide bronzer plus white fabric is not the moment.

32. What should I wear after tanning if I have recruitment the next morning?

Wear loose, dark pajamas after your tan and rinse exactly when instructed. The next morning, shower gently if needed, moisturize lightly, and then get dressed.

Avoid heavy oils, perfume directly on skin, tight shapewear for too long, and last-minute shaving. Keep the glow calm. Recruitment is already doing enough.

33. Can I wear shapewear after a spray tan?

Avoid shapewear until after your first rinse and ideally until your tan has settled. Shapewear is tight and can rub, especially around the waist, thighs, chest, and straps.

For the actual event, shapewear is fine once your tan is rinsed and settled. But immediately after the tan? Absolutely not. The glow needs room to breathe.

34. What if I sweat after my spray tan?

A little warmth is okay, but heavy sweating before your first rinse can cause streaks or uneven development. Avoid workouts, hot cars for too long, saunas, outdoor walks, and chaotic Austin heat whenever possible.

If you are tanning in the summer, plan your outfit, AC, and ride home like a girl with a mission.

35. Can I go out after my spray tan?

You can, but it is not ideal before your first rinse. Avoid crowded bars, sweating, tight clothes, spilled drinks, rain, and people hugging you like they are trying to exfoliate your shoulders.

If you have plans after, rapid rinse may be a better option so you can rinse sooner and live your life.

36. What if it rains after my spray tan?

Avoid rain before your first rinse. Water can cause spots or streaking while the tan is developing.

Bring loose long sleeves, an umbrella, and avoid running through the rain like a dramatic music video. Cute in theory. Risky for the tan.

37. Can I wear jewelry after my spray tan?

Avoid tight jewelry right after your tan, especially watches, bracelets, rings, and necklaces that rub. They can create lines while the tan develops.

Bring jewelry to put on after your first rinse or once your tan has settled. Your accessories can wait. The glow is the outfit for now.

38. What if my hands look too dark?

Hands can grab color because they are dry and textured. A good spray tan includes careful blending and barrier lotion, but aftercare matters too.

Avoid washing dishes, using sanitizer repeatedly, or applying random lotions before your tan. After your rinse, moisturize hands lightly and evenly. If hands ever look too dark, do not panic-scrub. Ask for a fix plan.

39. What if I am scared I will look too dark?

Tell me. Seriously. Your comfort level matters. For first-time clients, pale clients, or daytime sorority events, we can keep the color soft and natural.

A spray tan should make you feel confident, not like you need to explain yourself at chapter.

40. What if I want to look darker but still natural?

That is the sweet spot. We can choose a shade that gives more depth without going too warm, too muddy, or too intense for your natural coloring.

The trick is matching your undertone and event. Darker does not always mean better. Balanced color is what makes a tan look expensive.

41. What is the best beauty appointment order before recruitment or formal?

The easiest order is:

  1. Waxing or facial first

  2. Hair color or treatments

  3. Nails and toes

  4. Lashes and brows

  5. Everything shower

  6. Spray tan

  7. Hair styling, makeup, outfit, event

Spray tan should be one of the last beauty appointments before the event. Think of it as the finishing glow, not the first errand.

42. What should I do the morning of my event?

Take a gentle shower if needed, moisturize with a tan-friendly lotion, avoid heavy oils, use sunscreen if you will be outside, and be careful with tight clothing or shapewear for long periods.

Do not exfoliate, do not shave aggressively, do not panic-apply self tanner, and do not try a new body product because TikTok said so. Event day is not experiment day.

43. What should I bring to a group spray tan or roomie glow night?

Bring loose, dark clothing, sandals, and whatever you want to tan in. If you are tanning for a specific outfit, bring a photo of it or tell me the neckline, straps, color, and event date.

For roomie glow nights, it helps if everyone knows their event timeline and whether they want natural, medium, or dark. I will help with the rest.

44. What if all my friends are getting darker than me?

That is okay. Your tan should match your skin, not your group chat. Different skin tones develop differently, and what looks natural on one person may look too dark on another.

The goal is for everyone to look good together, not identical. This is not spray tan copy-paste.

45. What is the biggest sorority girl spray tan mistake?

Getting every beauty service in the wrong order, wearing tight clothes after the tan, or waiting until the last second before a white outfit event.

The best glow is planned. Do your prep, book early, wear loose clothes, rinse on time, and do not let your fresh tan fight your nails, lashes, waxing appointment, and white dress all in the same 12 hours.
